i’m gareth — the photographer behind 3rd mile.
i grew up in paisley and started going to gigs when i was twelve. by 2004 i was taking photos from the crowd with a small camera and no real plan, just curiosity and too much enthusiasm. by 2014 i was in the pit shooting for my own blog.
in 2017 i put everything under the name 3rd mile. after lockdown, the work grew; more venues, more artists, and a community that felt like home.
in 2024 i became house photographer at glasgow’s barrowland ballroom, a place i’d queued outside more times than i can count. now i cover the shows, the room, and the quieter moments around it for their socials, website, and archive.
i've attended more than two thousand shows, and i still get the same feeling when the lights go down. i focus on atmosphere, strong colour and the small moments that hold a story.
i’m based in glasgow and work freelance across scotland with artists, promoters, and venues who want that same energy in their images.
