i’m gareth — the photographer behind 3rd mile.
i grew up in paisley and started going to gigs when i was twelve. by 2004 i was taking photos from the crowd — no passes, no plan, just a small camera and too much enthusiasm. by 2014 i was in the pit shooting for my own blog.
in 2017 i pulled everything together under the name 3rd mile. after lockdown, things really took off — regular work with a scottish music magazine, more venues, more artists, and a growing community that feels like home.
in 2024 i became house photographer at glasgow’s barrowland ballroom — a place i’d queued outside more times than i can count. now i cover the shows, the room, and the small moments in between for their socials, website and archive.
after more than two thousand shows, i still get the same buzz when the lights go down. my approach’s simple: strong colour, sharp portraits and moments that stick.
i’m based in glasgow and work freelance across scotland with artists, promoters and venues who want that same energy in their images.
